What is Kleresca, and how does it actually help rosacea?

Kleresca is a light-based biophotonic treatment that uses a light-activated gel to target the inflammation behind rosacea, delivered as a course of several sessions, but it manages flares rather than curing the underlying condition.

This reflects manufacturer information rather than independent published research.

Kleresca is a light-based treatment that works differently to standard LED therapy, and it’s one of the options sometimes used specifically for rosacea-related redness and inflammation.

How it actually works

A specifically formulated gel is applied to the skin before a light device is used. Compounds in the gel absorb that light and re-emit it as what’s known as fluorescent light energy, which penetrates the skin to stimulate its own repair processes, rather than simply warming or resurfacing the surface the way some other light-based treatments do. The session itself is generally described as comfortable, more of a warm sensation than any discomfort.

What a course actually involves

This isn’t a single-session treatment. Rosacea-focused Kleresca is delivered as a course of several sessions, since the inflammation being targeted settles gradually rather than resolving instantly. Reported results after completing a full course commonly last several months to around a year, though this varies between individuals, and rosacea can still flare again from its usual triggers in the meantime.

What it can and can’t do

Kleresca is aimed specifically at the visible redness and inflammation associated with rosacea, not a cure for the underlying condition itself. Daily sun protection and avoiding personal triggers, heat, alcohol, spicy food, certain active skincare ingredients, remain important alongside any in-clinic treatment, in Cairns’ climate especially, where several common rosacea triggers are present for most of the year.

Before considering it

Persistent facial redness isn’t always rosacea, other conditions can look similar and need a different approach entirely, so a professional assessment matters before starting any rosacea-specific treatment, to confirm what’s actually causing it.
